Salford City Red Devils defeated Wakefield Trinity 30-6 to book their spot in the last four of the Challenge Cup.
This is the first time since 1998 that the Reds would go this far. Only fans of a certain age would remember seeing the team go this far in the tournament.
Salford are regular strugglers so it is much of a journey for them after fighting to retain their status in the Super League months back. They won the status battle in the Million Pound Game and now they sit second in the league. They have now progressed to being a win shy of an appearance in Wembley since 1989.
When Salford reached this stage in 1998, Sheffield Eagles trumped them 22-18. After their impressive start this term, some losses threatened their strong confidence. Coach Ian Watson soon proved many wrong when they went past Wakefield despite the loss weeks back. Continue reading
